PERSONALITY: John Egbert is a nerdy and silly boy, right down to the glasses and eccentric interests that only he understands. In the beginning of Homestuck, you can see that John is a pretty normal kid, and for all intents and purposes, he is. He's just got a quirky personality, which is best demonstrated by his love for pranks and bad jokes. However, this is not to be confused with being a clown. He deeply despises the Harlequin type, actually. John is also upbeat, friendly, and enjoys movies and video games with the same gusto as pranking. His favorite movies are blockbuster action movies featuring mangritty protagonists. Ask for a list of John's favorite films, and he will name off every awful movie you're probably never seen, most if not all of them starring Nic Cage.

John loves the types of characters that Nic Cage plays. The scruffy, down-on-their-luck, smarmy type of assholes that get the girl while posing like a badass in front of a backdrop of bad CGI explosions. Perhaps this is a reflection on the type of person he wants to be, since he is your stereotypical awkward and scrawny nerd. But that never stops John from striving to be that Nicholas Cage archtype! In fact, there are plenty of moments where he has been found quite literally acting out scenes from his favorite film: Con Air. Even in the midst of a game that is quite literally destroying his universe, John can't help himself from celebrating and paying tribute to absolutely awful films he loves dearly.

To backtrack: John is friendly, first and foremost. First impressions show John as a very positive person with a good sense of humor. Making his friends laugh and keeping the mood upbeat and alive is something that this Egbert strives to do. In fact, he is likely one of the only kids playing the game who tries to make friends with each and every creature in his specific world within the game. However, this is not always a positive, and he can be a bit too trusting. Such is his knack for trusting the untrustworthy that John's naivete has gotten him into all kinds of trouble in the past. The best example of this is when Terezi tricks him into facing his Denizen far too early, which in led to his untimely death in an alternate timeline that Dave went back in time to fix.

Most of all, John is the typical hero type. Despite being a huge dork with a mad boner for horrible action films, his kindness and determination are what make him great leader material to his friends. With kindness comes hopefulness, and John is one of the more hopeful individuals in the series. Even if he has moments of skepticism and cynicism, his light-hearted and friendly disposition more than make up for them. He believes in teamwork, relying on friends and being relied on. However, while he fits the bill for leader, John refuses to look at himself as one, feeling that the title places him above his friends when he considers them all equals. He puts his faith in those around him because he believes it crucial to their success. Despite the distaste he once held for the trolls, John will openly admit that they have all quickly become useful allies and valuable friends. Not to mention the faith he already holds for Dave, Jade, and Rose. With all of these amazing friends, there is absolutely no way they could lose.

Despite John's friendliness, he does have his smart-ass moments. From smarmy remarks to his best friend Dave, to the way he easily seems to lose patience when frustrated, John's fuse does have an end point. When his capacity is reached, John tends to blow things just a little out of proportion and break out into ridiculous dramatics. While these are not frequent and he is more kind than short-tempered, he is a teenager, and he is prone to having these moments.

During his upbringing, John was raised by his father, who seemed to have a very similar sense of humor-- If not worse. Growing up surrounded by constant pranks and embarrassing Dad humor has forged John into the man he is today. His love for awful jokes and hatred for baked goods were certainly contributed by his father. Let it be known that likely the only things that truly angers John are baked goods and clown. These two things will almost always cause him to fly off the handle into pure, unadulterated rage. Trolls tend to irritate him from time to time too, but he's grown to appreciate all of them in some manner. His friendliness makes John open to changing his views on things.

A quality shared among the kids in the Homestuck canon is that they were all sheltered. Not a single kid experienced the normal upbringing like normal kids (I.E. going to school, having friends, being in real-life social situations, etc...). Despite the affectionate upbringing John's father provided, John was raised in his home without really ever leaving. This has fostered his social ineptitude. While John is outgoing and friendly, his lack of social experience means he can be pretty dorky. While he doesn't go off on rambling tangents like a certain Strider might, John can ramble like the best of them. Sometimes, he says awkward and silly things that aren't as off-putting as they are strange. His friends find it endearing, while the trolls see him as the perfect opportunity to be manipulated. John is especially awkward around girls, and tends to be a little nervous and act goofy when indulged. The best examples of this are when he meets Rose and Roxy both. (Jade, his biological sister, doesn't count.)

Basically, John's the kind of guy you want on your team. While dorky and a self-proclaimed prankster god, his loyalty and hopefulness make him a good friend.

ABILITIES: John has reached god-tier status in Sburb, which has gifted him the ability to call upon the element of wind for his benefit. This means he can create typhoons, wind gusts, etc. A full list of his powers can be found here. He also has the abilities all other god-tiers do, such as flight, immortality, etc.

Given that SBURB involves a lot of creation of items, John does have a decent understanding of structure, and is very talented at building things and crafting items. Though the items he's created in SBURB may seem ridiculous at times, they are nonetheless very effective. He's also skilled at using giant hammers as weapons!

INVENTORY: John's Sylladex's Fetch Modus is wallet (his dad's wallet). His Strife Specibi are hammerkind, bunnykind, and umbrellakind. Inside his Sylladex is some shaving cream, his computers, and junk food.

MEMORY ALTERATION: John has been made to believe that this is just another strange part of the game, SBURB. He believes he's been ported here to accomplish something that helps move them forward.
